Whizz Tackles Bike Theft and Supports Independent Delivery Contractors

The Challenge
Bike theft is a major issue in US cities. To address this, Whizz employs a dedicated repossession team. Both the team and delivery drivers require precise, continuous bike tracking, along with the ability to remotely control bikes.
Initially, Whizz relied on regular SIM cards from a regular mobile operator which led to excessive data costs amounting to thousands of dollars monthly. The manual SIM insertion process was time-consuming and inefficient, requiring the SIM Identification numbers to be manually processed in their IT system, one-by-one. If a bike lost connection, solving the issue was cumbersome and lacked a clear process.

Seamless Integration: SIM cards are shipped directly to Whizz’s manufacturing facility in China, installed during production, and mapped to specific bikes. This eliminates manual insertion and configuration.
Automated Configuration: When a bike comes online for the first time, Monogoto’s platform triggers an automated message to configure connectivity settings and the IP endpoint for application data. Future updates to configurations can be made remotely using the same process.
Cost Efficiency: Monogoto’s IoT SIMs reduced monthly data expenses significantly, and automation minimized labor costs associated with manual SIM handling.
Remote monitoring and control:
- Real-Time Location Tracking: The platform sends regular location updates to Whizz’s servers, ensuring the repossession team and drivers always have access to the bike’s exact location.
- Remote Alarm Activation: If a bike is stolen, Whizz can remotely trigger an alarm, making the bike easy to locate or deterring potential thieves.
- Disabling Electric Assistance: Monogoto enables Whizz to remotely block the e-bike’s electric cycling support, making the bike less appealing to thieves
- Steering Lock: For newer e-bike models, Whizz can remotely lock the steering mechanism, fully immobilizing the bike.
