Meet Kfir Evgi, Head of Networking API at Monogoto. With more than two decades in telecom, Kfir has spent his career mastering the complexities behind cellular networks. Today, he focuses on transforming legacy telecom infrastructure into simple, developer-friendly APIs that help customers build faster. When he’s not solving connectivity challenges, you’ll probably find him cooling off in his backyard pool or reminiscing about his days as a championship-winning tennis player.
Q: What’s your role at Monogoto, and how would you explain what you do to someone outside the tech world?
I treat cellular connectivity as a craft, almost an art form. There are decades of deep, hard-won knowledge baked into cellular networks and the legacy platforms that run them, and it takes real fluency to speak that language. My role is to sit right in the middle: on one side, the world of cellular and all its legacy systems; on the other, modern best practices, clean APIs, and developer tools. I take everything that lives in those older, complex platforms and translate it into something a developer can actually pick up and quickly build with. If you’re outside the tech world, think of me as a translator between two very different generations of technology, making the old, intricate details feel simple and modern.
Q: Where are you based, and what do you love most about where you live?
I’m based in Gederah, a quiet suburb in central Israel. What I love most is the balance it gives us; it’s a calm place with a really good community life, which makes it wonderful for raising kids, and yet we’re not far from the big Tel Aviv scene when we want it. And honestly, my favorite escape is right at home: we have a pool, so on a hot day I can just step outside and disappear into the water for a while.
Q: When you think about your career, what are you most proud of?
I spent more than a decade at a large cellular operator, and in that world you tend to own one small piece of a huge machine; you’re deep on the packet-switched side, or the circuit-switched side, and each part does its own narrow job. Coming to Monogoto flipped that completely. Here I get to touch the entire stack: the SIM cards themselves and the applications running on them, the signaling, the packet core, all the way up to the API layer developers actually build on. What I’m proudest of is being able to see and control the full stack end-to-end, because that’s the only way you can guarantee the experience is truly right for each use case. When you understand every layer, you can ensure it all comes together into something that just works for the customer.
Q: What does a “great day at work” look like for you?
A great day is when a customer shows up with a real problem, and we solve it in a way nobody expected. Maybe it’s 10,000 devices that got stuck out in the field after a failed software upgrade. Maybe it’s a company whose devices can’t get onto the network as they cross a border, and we build a creative fix using our APIs, an auto campaign, or a clever way to bring devices back to life remotely instead of sending someone to drive out and touch each one. Or maybe someone’s tangled up in a firewall issue or some other complicated edge case. The best days are the ones where the problem looks messy and hard, and because we control the whole stack, we can find an elegant solution that gets the customer back up and running.
Q: What excites you most about the future of connectivity?
Until now, IoT has been relatively small and narrow. What excites me most is that we’re moving into the era of AI and robotics: physical AI. We’re about to be surrounded by robots that cut the grass, fold the laundry, work in factories, and deliver our food. Every one of those devices is going to need connectivity, and knowing that Monogoto is part of building the foundation for that transformation is what gets me up in the morning. We’re not just watching this future arrive; we’re helping make it possible.
Q: What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?
I once had real potential in tennis. I even won a championship. Life eventually pulled me in a different direction, into technology, but there was a version of me headed for the court instead of the network.
